General Duties/Description:

As a member of the MSGPP (www.sgpp.org) Protein Lab, the Research Scientist Assistant will be trained to clone, express, and purify proteins for x-ray crystallography, structure determination, and biochemical assay. These proteins are potential drug targets against pathogenic protozoa (the causative agents of Malaria, African Sleeping Sickness, Chagas' Disease, Leishmaniasis, Toxoplasmosis, and Giardia to name a few). The successful candidate will also help with general lab maintenance such as: ordering supplies, cleaning glassware and taking care of lab waste

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular or Cellular Biology, Biochemistry or other related field.

Additional requirements:

  • Some experience working in a non-class related laboratory.
  • Ability to prepare reagents, manage data and keep a detailed notebook.
  • A high level of motivation, good organizational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Familiar with MS Office software.

Condition of Employment: Must be willing to work occasional weekend and/or evening hours.
